Everything would be fine if it weren’t for the rain. I wish that statement was true, but I can’t blame the rain for this morning’s nausea or even yesterday’s random tibia pain. This is still chemo-related and these effects, along with perpetual lethargy and tiredness, will continue to be part of my everyday existence at least for the next nine months. What happens after that remains to be seen. I’d like to say that by this point I’ve gotten accustomed to the randomness with which symptoms seem to hit. I’ve not. I still spend too much time cursing quietly in the dark, holding tightly to whichever dog is closest (they don’t seem to mind), and looking in vain for a way to escape.
Intermittent rain didn’t help anything yesterday, either. Some of the showers were heavy at times, creating a situation where even the dogs didn’t want to get out of bed. Kat and the kids were gone to her sister’s house in Fishers where they were introduced to 10-week-old Daisy, a golden retriever whose energy matches their 18-month-old daughter. That left me in bed with both dogs and anywhere from three to eight cats at various times, depending on how strong the rain was. Too much fun, I tell you.
By the time the rain was done for the day, I was too exhausted from the rollercoaster of side effects to bother cooking for myself. I called a Lyft and went to the nearest pseudo-Chinese buffet that’s run with no Asians of any persuasion and plays Mariachi music loudly. Everyone was home by the time I returned. I perused comments and such on social media until enough time passed to allow for evening meds, then went right back to bed.
I know I live such an exciting life.
If you’re expecting me to back down or back off my warnings about the election, you’re going to be disappointed. While Saturday’s shooting was tragic for three families, the Felon’s family was not among those. It didn’t take but a few hours before the image of the Felon’s bloody face was being used on his website to raise campaign funds. To my current knowledge, the campaign hasn’t offered to pay for the firefighter’s funeral nor the hospital expenses of the men injured. In fact, beyond an initial “thoughts and prayers,” the Felon hasn’t mentioned them. For the Felon and his comrades, the shooting just gave him a chance to capture the sympathy vote.
Kate, Britain’s Princess of Wales, was welcomed back to Wimbledon with a standing ovation. Her appearance was perhaps a bit of a surprise given that her cancer treatments have been predictably rough. The Princess is the royal patron of Wimbledon, so it’s kind of a big deal if she were to miss it. Princess Charlotte was by her side and I can pretty much promise that helped Kate more than the guards that flanked her.
An extremely rare, as in never-before-seen-live, spade-toothed whale may have been beached in New Zealand. Having never seen one, scientists know practically nothing about the species and are looking at this event, though tragic, as an opportunity to learn.
Look, a lot of people are pulling back after Saturday’s shooting. MSNBC isn’t airing Morning Joe today. Comedy Central pulled Jon Stewart’s Milwaukee-based show. As the President asked for everyone to chill, there’s uncertainty as to what is safe to say. Let me clear that up for you.
Project 2025 remains the biggest threat in this election and neither the shooting nor anything about President Biden should distract us. I won’t say that the shooting was planned by anyone other than the shooter, but it certainly is a convenient distraction going into a Republican Convention which is sponsored by the Heritage Foundation. You know, the folks that wrote the 900-page plan for turning the US into a waste dump. Get past the shooting. While the loss of life is tragic, it doesn’t change the fact that, if elected, the GOP will tear this country apart so fast that we’ll be sitting here this time next year wondering how it happened.
You HAVE to be loud to stop this nonsense. Watch what people say this week. They’ll be dropping hints in all the speeches. Call them out. Don’t let anything fall between the cracks. This is still an election that could send us down a path toward unspeakable loss of freedom. We have to stop the GOP.
And I’m ready for this rain to give us a break, too.

Meanwhile, Residents of a Gaza City neighborhood return to find homes destroyed by Israeli bombardment. Keep in mind, that this is totally political violence as well. Galveston residents are still without power a week after Beryl blew through because Texas not only can’t manage its grid, it’s arguing over how much to pay the linemen who have come in to help. This is the height of beach season down there and it’s not going well.
