Yesterday was a much-needed rest day. Neither of the kids were asleep before midnight so they didn’t move until well after 10:00 and even then they both took additional naps. The rest of the neighborhood seemed to feel much the same way. Even the construction workers for the house next door didn’t start hammering and sawing until after 9:00. I spent the early part of the day reading, then got in my fair share of napping as well. Then, Kat picked up the kids and off they went to a friend’s house, again not getting in bed until after midnight.
I thought about going out last night, especially since it was First Friday, but I didn’t want to go alone and by the time I thought about it, it was too late to ask anyone to go with me. All things considered, though, it was probably best that I stay in. My glucose has been like a yo-yo, low in the morning, then doubling or more during the day. I need to stay away from carbs today to get that back under control. Fortunately, there are enough leftovers that I shouldn’t need to cook anything.
Even the dogs seem exhausted. They’ve barely moved since the cats woke me up this morning. We’ve not been outside. Mowing needs to happen today but it will be tough getting the kids out if it’s as humid as it has been most of this week. The next best chance for rain looks to be Monday. After that, it depends on what Hurricane Beryl decides to do this weekend. The kids are strongly eyeing the start of school in a couple of weeks and trying to get in all the goofing off they can. Chores are low on their priority list at the moment, and who can blame them?

I’ve this sense that there’s trouble coming, though. Both the Etna and Stromboli volcanoes spectacularly exploded yesterday. Both the UK and France pretty much flipped their governments this week. Hamas seems willing to talk. I’m of the opinion that the world, in general, wants to reset, but in what direction? The Orange Felon is trying to distance himself from Project 2025, but we already know he can’t be trusted. Iran is having runoff elections this weekend and that likely means more chaos than solution. All of it, together, is… uncomfortable.
And all four of the animals on my bed are licking their own balls. That’s not only uncomfortable, but it’s a unique noise that makes me cringe.
Perhaps it is time to put on pants and get things done, both physically and metaphorically. The coffee isn’t going to drink itself.
