Tipper, responding to Hamilton prancing eagerly in the hallway, waiting to go outside: “Maybe we should check Hammy for ADHD, he’s so hyper.”
Me: “Should I check him for autism as well?”
Tipper: “Maybe, but it’s definitely not the smart kind of autism.” 🤣
This morning’s update is not chronological because that’s not the way my brain is working at the moment.
Yesterday was beautiful. The kids mowed the lawn. The dogs ran laps around the house. Neighbors made too much noise. The kids mowing the lawn was kind of a big deal because I wasn’t out there with them as I’ve been in previous years. The lawn is too uneven and I have too much trouble standing up. They’re 14 (almost) and 15 this summer, so realistically there’s no reason they shouldn’t be able to handle the lawn by themselves. Still, it’s difficult to let go and let them be unsupervised. I stayed awake well past my nap time just to make sure they were safe, then passed out until after 6:00.
I fixed fish cakes for dinner with the leftover cod from Thursday night, but it still wasn’t much better than the original disaster. Both kids ate it this time, but I’m pretty sure that was more due to hunger than enjoyment. I need to up my game a bit.
The upside to the nicer weather is that there hasn’t been as much pain. I was able to actually rest last night. Today should be similar, but tomorrow, when the much-anticipated eclipse occurs, is still questionable. The National Weather Service is saying we’ll probably have high clouds but that they shouldn’t interfere with viewing the eclipse.
Just for the record: there is a total eclipse approximately every 18 months. They’re not new. They’re not even all that unique. The area of totally just happens to pass right over the middle of the US this time around. NOT the end of the world. NOT a sign from god. NOT a reason for anyone to behave more stupidly than normal. This is just science doing its thing.
Tipper just announced that this morning’s rice is done. I’m going to go eat. Wasn’t this an exciting experience? I’ll write more later. PLEASE, read.
