Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.—Francis of Assisi
Somehow, we did it! A new year, a new start for the website with a new layout and design that we hope will facilitate more pictures and more information. A lot of things have changed as we have attempted to streamline the experience a little better and make it more responsive to those of you who can’t visit every day and especially those who view us on mobile devices. Let’s hit a few of the highlights so you’ll know what to expect this year.
Everything on one page … sort of.
Good-bye menu. This year’s new start begins with a single-page layout that allows mobile users to access  different sections just by scrolling. This is significant because traditional web design has always held that desktop users don’t like to scroll and content should be kept, “above the fold.” Mbile users respond differently, though, and since an increasing number of people access the site via mobile devices we made the change to accomodate them.
Expanded portfolios.
How many pictures should a photographer display in their online portfolios? Almost everyone you ask is going to give a different answer. We’ve limited the number the past couple of years on the belief that simple was better. Apparently, we were wrong, so long as the means of navigation isn’t complicated. The new layout puts all the portfolios in one place for easy acess. Note: these are still going to look best on a larger desktop monitor; that’s not going to change. However, everything about them should be improved.
Expanded content.
More than just a Photo of the Day, we will be including additional content addressing topics related to fashion, advertising, and photography. For those who like charles’ fashion week coverage, this should be especially exciting. Not that we plan on having too many posts each day, but this would be a very good time to subscribe. Check the link in the sidebar.
Service pricing.
Kat and I have debated adding this information for a couple of years and this year she won. Services and basic pricing are listed just below the portfolios. Nope, we’re not cheap, but at the same time we’re a long way from being at the top end of unreasonable. This isn’t to say we won’t run sales or make deals, mind you, but at least it gives everyone a reference point.
Today is a new start in a lot of ways for a lot of different people. This year is already a switch from 2015, even though it’s only a few hours’ old. We hope you like the changes and will share the new look with your friends. And again,if you want to keep up, we really recommend that you subscribe now.
